The Queen of Summer: ESFJ

Today, I thought I would change things up a bit and talk about MBTI types. It has been far too long since I wrote about my friendships with other personalities (An ISFJ’s Take On Being Best Friends With An ENTP, ENFP, & INFJ). Much has changed since I wrote that article, and I want to discuss new experiences and the knowledge I have gained since I first started to study the MBTI types. Because Summer is now upon us, I thought to myself, “What better way to kick off this MBTI series than to talk about the Queen of Summer herself, the ESFJ?”

ESFJs are sunny and warm-hearted, kind and parental. It is my deduction that this personality type would be a lovely relationship partner, as the qualities ESFJs possess strongly lean into relationship-building skills (like those you can find on Strengthsfinder). According to The Myers & Briggs Foundation, EFSJs make up about 12.3% of the population — they are the second largest group next to ISFJs at 13.8%. I think 16Personalities introduces the ESFJ personality quite well,

“For Consuls, life is sweetest when it’s shared with others. People with this personality type form the bedrock of many communities, opening their homes — and their hearts — to friends, loved ones, and neighbors.”

This description, coupled with my real experiences with ESFJs, always makes me think of Summer or a field full of colorful flowers. It’s something about their presence that makes you feel taken care of. They are dedicated planners and know the needs of their friends — these character traits are due to the Sensing and Judging part of their personality. Additionally, they are kind and easy to talk to, which is reflected in their Feeling and Extroverted nature. Truity gave a list of careers the ESFJ would easily fit into; many of the careers lean into their relationship-building instincts, like Elementary Teacher, Nurse, or Event Coordinator.

“ESFJs usually prefer to work with others, and are energized by participating in a motivated, conscientious, action-oriented team. It is important to the ESFJ to do work that is accordant with their values, as well as to work with others who are supportive and cooperative.”

For those of us who study personality types regularly, we know that for each strength there also lies a weakness. And, unfortunately, ESFJs are not immune to weaknesses. Much of the internal struggles this type suffers with revolve around their own social standing and personal needs. What do others think of them? Do they give enough of themselves? Will they be judged if they express their own needs and wants? Are they too strict and rigid? These fears can really impact the ESFJ’s confidence and how they express their feelings for others. It can stifle their creativity and obstruct their path on the way to harmony. That’s why they need to receive just as much encouragement as they give. But how can they find that support?

One of the best ways is by using an essential oil that promotes those positive feelings. That’s why I think any ESFJ would love Citrus Bliss.

“This Invigorating Blend of Wild Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Red Mandarin, Green Mandarin, Lime, with a touch of Litsea, Tonka Bean, and Vanilla Absolute is joy in a bottle,” says dōTERRA.

Its uplifting aroma produces notes of citrus and rounds it off with a soft sweetness, just like the ESFJ personality. Remember how I likened this personality type to Summer? Well, Citrus Bliss is a lovely scent for this season. It almost makes one think of eating ice cream cones on the beach. Better yet, California Girls by Katy Perry is playing in the background and the weather is the perfect temperature. Each of the oils in Citrus Bliss combine to support pleasant feelings, but the blend specifically touches on the weaknesses of ESFJs.

"Every soul has a need to create. This blend inspires creative expression by reconnecting individuals with their inner child and their natural creative sense. It assists individuals in living abundantly and spontaneously, and encourages play and excitement... Citrus Bliss rekindles the fire of the personality and fills the heart with creativity and joy” (pg. 118).

Essential Emotions goes on to say that Citrus Bliss helps address negative emotions like insecurity, lack of motivation, discouragement, and stifled creative expression… all of which are weaknesses ESFJs tend to struggle with. That’s why I recommend all ESFJs use Citrus Bliss when they begin to forget just how wonderful they are! These essential oils are meant to support us along the way, so why not use the ones that specifically benefit our physical and emotional weaknesses?

Don’t lose heart, sweet ESFJs. I think you’re amazing. In fact, some of the kindest and most dedicated people I know are ESFJs.
